Magnesium is one of those supplements that makes a lot of sense for a lot of people. The issue is that many formulas are either underdosed, poorly chosen, or rough on the stomach. What I like here is that Strom have used three different forms rather than just throwing in a cheap oxide and calling it a day.

Who it’s for:

This is for anyone wanting a solid daily magnesium product, especially people looking to support muscle function, recovery, sleep, stress resilience, or just general health. It also makes sense for hard trainers, busy people, and anyone whose diet probably isn’t covering all bases.

What it does:

Magnesium is involved in a huge number of processes in the body, including muscle and nerve function, energy production, and normal psychological function. The use of multiple organic forms is also a plus, because organic magnesium salts tend to compare favourably for absorption versus some cheaper forms.

How I’d use it:

Strom’s directions are 1-3 capsules daily, so this hints at sizing according to need. For someone simply covering bases, 1 capsule daily is fine.

For someone training hard, struggling with sleep, or wanting a bit more support, 2-3 capsules daily may make more sense, provided it sits well with them.

Strom do note that 600mg of magnesium may cause mild stomach upset in sensitive individuals, so it’s worth starting lower and assessing tolerance.

The Science:

The effect of magnesium supplementation on primary insomnia in elderly: A double-blind placebo-controlled clinical trial

Study: Placebo-controlled clinical trial examining whether magnesium supplementation improved insomnia-related measures in older adults with primary insomnia.

Journal of Research in Medical Sciences, 2012

Magnesium supplementation improved several subjective and objective markers of sleep, including insomnia severity and sleep efficiency, which supports magnesium’s relevance when better sleep is one of the goals.

Bioavailability of magnesium food supplements: A review

Study: Review comparing the bioavailability of different magnesium forms and analysing how formulation affects absorption.

This review supports the idea that the form of magnesium matters, and that better-formulated organic forms can offer practical advantages over cheaper options, which reflects the logic behind using a three-form blend such as bisglycinate, gluconate, and taurate.
