Is it suitable for vegans/vegetarians?
✅ Yes, Per4M EAA Xtra is suitable for both vegans and vegetarians. It is formulated without animal-derived ingredients and is free from added sugars.
When it comes to intra-workout supplementation, Per4M EAA Xtra stands out as a comprehensive and effective choice.
Each serving delivers a potent blend of essential amino acids, including a 2:1:1 ratio of BCAAs, to support muscle protein synthesis and recovery.
The addition of L-Glutamine aids in gut health, while L-Citrulline Malate helps reduce fatigue by clearing ammonia from the muscles.
Taurine supports hydration, and the inclusion of proteolytic enzymes like Bromelain and Papain enhances nutrient absorption.
With added vitamins C, B6, and B12, this formula not only supports muscle recovery but also boosts immune function and energy metabolism.
Who it’s for:
Ideal for athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts seeking a comprehensive intra-workout supplement to enhance performance and recovery.
What it does:
Provides a full spectrum of essential amino acids to support muscle protein synthesis, reduce fatigue, and promote recovery.
How I would use it:
Firstly, are EAA’s an essential supplement when it comes to training and recovery? No.
Will EAA’s aid with activation of muscle protein synthesis and help you avoid going into a catabolic state? Yes!
For me, I drink them for the entirety of my workout, mixed with electrolytes and cordial (I chuck a few ice cubes into the shaker for good measure) – I find them really refreshing and I drink more water when I use them than I do without. Which can only be a good thing!
But, if you’re on a tight budget and struggle to afford luxuries such as EAA’s, then don’t worry, it won’t really affect the outcome, providing your protein intake is where it needs to be via your dietary intake.
The Science:
Even small doses of high-leucine EAAs effectively stimulate MPS in older adults
Study: Stimulation of muscle protein synthesis with low‑dose essential amino acid composition in older individuals.
Frontiers in Nutrition (2024)
This tracer-based study demonstrated that ingesting just 3.6 g of a high‑leucine EAA mix significantly increased muscle protein fractional synthetic rate (FSR) by ~0.058%/hour over three hours – representing ~80% of ingested EAA’s incorporated into muscle protein. It confirms that even small servings of free‑form EAA’s (like those in EAA Xtra) can rapidly activate MPS.
Combining free-form EAAs with whey yields superior net protein balance during exercise
Study: Essential amino acid‑enriched whey enhances post‑exercise muscle protein balance vs whey alone.
Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (2020)
In this randomised crossover study, participants consumed free-form EAAs plus whey immediately post-exercise. Results showed ~22 g greater whole-body net protein balance over 180 minutes compared to whey alone or a whole-food meal – demonstrating the anabolic advantage of EAA Xtra’s formulation particularly under exercise-induced stress or energy deficit.
