Marchon Workout Fuel 2.0
(640g tub)

£37.95

Marchon Workout Fuel 2.0 is a pre/intra-workout formula designed to support both physical and mental performance during training.

Unlike traditional pre-workouts that focus heavily on stimulants, Workout Fuel is built around three key areas:

Performance carbohydrates

Blood flow and endurance support

Focus and cognitive function

The formula combines fast-digesting carbohydrates, Citrulline Malate, BetaPower® Betaine, L-Tyrosine and Rhodiola Rosea. The caffeinated version also includes caffeine and L-Theanine to further enhance focus and alertness.

Marchon also offer a caffeine-free version for evening training sessions or individuals who prefer to limit stimulant intake.

True to form for Marchon (always innovating) – this is one of the more intelligently designed products I’ve come across in recent years because it fills a gap that a lot of supplements miss.

Most people fall into one of two camps. They either take a traditional pre-workout loaded with stimulants, or they train with nothing at all.

Workout Fuel sits somewhere in the middle.

What I think is great is that the foundation of the product is carbohydrates. That might not sound exciting, but carbohydrates are arguably the most performance-enhancing ingredient in the entire formula.

If you’re doing a sizeable amount of training, especially longer sessions, conditioning work, Hyrox, Crossfit, team sports, running or cycling, having constant fuel available matters.

The combination of Maltodextrin and Cluster Dextrin works well because you get quick energy alongside a more sustained release throughout the session.

I also like the fact that Marchon haven’t forgotten the mental side of performance.

The Tyrosine and Rhodiola help support focus and concentration, whilst the caffeinated version adds 200mg caffeine and 100mg L-Theanine for those wanting a little more drive and alertness.

Personally, if I was training early in the day, I’d happily use the caffeinated version. If I was training later in the afternoon or evening, I’d almost certainly reach for the caffeine-free version.

Sleep is one of the biggest performance enhancers available, and there’s no point smashing a pre-workout at 7pm if it’s going to destroy your sleep quality later that night.

For people doing longer or more demanding training sessions, I actually think this is one of the most practical products Marchon make. It gives you fuel, focus and performance support in one drink, without relying purely on stimulants to create the illusion that it’s working.

The Science:

International Society of Sports Nutrition position stand: nutrient timing

Study: This position stand reviewed the effects of nutrient timing, including carbohydrate consumption around exercise, on performance and recovery.

Journal of the International Society of Sports Nutrition, 2017

Consuming carbohydrates before and during exercise can help support training performance, sustain energy availability and improve recovery, particularly during longer or more demanding sessions.

Citrulline malate enhances athletic anaerobic performance and relieves muscle soreness

Study: Researchers investigated the effects of citrulline malate supplementation on resistance exercise performance and post-exercise recovery.

Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2010

Citrulline malate significantly increased repetitions performed during resistance exercise and reduced post-exercise muscle soreness, supporting its inclusion within performance-focused workout formulas.
